शाखा

शाखा 1 A branch(as of a tree); आवज्र्य शाखाः R. 16. 19.
2 An arm.
3 A party, section, faction.
4 A part of subdivision of a work.
5 A school, branch, sect.
6 A part or division of an animal.
7 A school or traditional recension of the Veda, the traditional text followed by a school; as in शाकलशा- खा, आश्वलायनशाखा, बाष्कलशाखा &c.

−चंक्रमणं leaping from branch to branch’, irregular study.
−चंद्रन्यायः see under न्याय. −नगरं, −पुरं a suburb.
−पित्तः inflammation of the extremities of the body, e. g. hands, shoulders &c.
−भृत् m. a tree. −भे- दः difference of (Vedic) school.
−मृगः 1. a monkey, an ape. −2. a squirrel.
−रंडः ‘a traitor to his Śākhā’, a Brāhmaṇa who has changed his own school of the Vedas.
−रथ्या a branch-road.
−विलीन a. sitting on branches (as a bird).
−शिफा a root growing from a branch (as of the fig-tree).
